Custom statement layouts
Describes Fynease as of September 2026
The same books often have to be presented several ways: grouped for the tax return, in more detail for management, in the shape the external financial statements use, and summarised for the board or investors. In Fynease a client can have as many statement layouts as it needs, each named for its purpose, and every one presents the same numbers.
Where they are built
In Connect Data, Chart of Accounts, Report Layouts. Every client starts with Chart of accounts (default): one line per account group with the standard subtotals, rebuilt from the chart each time. Create a new layout, or duplicate one and change it, and give it a name and a description of its audience or purpose. A layout can cover the whole client or a single company.
How lines are defined
- Separate sheets for the income statement and the balance sheet.
- Add, rename, reorder (by dragging or with the keyboard) and remove lines.
- Subtotals such as gross profit, EBITDA, net income, total current assets and total equity print in their standard place: a layout groups the accounts inside each section of the statement and never moves a total.
- A line holds whole account groups, individual accounts, or both. An account picked on its own wins over the line that holds its group.
- An account can sit on only one line; the editor shows where it already is.
Presentation only
- A layout never changes how an account is classified, and never moves value across the statement: a line cannot mix, for example, operating expenses with cost of sales.
- Any account a layout does not place stays under its standard group, after the layout's lines, so the lines plus what is unplaced always equal the statement total.
- On the balance sheet, a line that spans current and non-current accounts is marked, and is applied within each side.
- The editor flags a line that captures nothing.
Where a layout is used
- Analysis: a Layout picker on the income statement and balance sheet, remembered for each client in your browser. The income statement and balance sheet Excel exports use the layout you picked.
- Report packages: a layout for the whole package, and a different one on any statement block if needed, so a board pack and a management pack can present the same month differently.
- Excel: the package workbook uses the same layout, and the package says which layout it used.
What layouts do not do
- Apply to the cash flow statement, which uses its standard presentation.
- Move a subtotal, or change signs or styling on the printed statement.
- Come as ready-made tax, management or board templates: each is built from the default or a copy.
- Share one layout across several clients.
