Reporting year and fiscal year
Describes Fynease as of September 2026
A company keeps its books on its own fiscal year. The people it reports to may need a different one: a parent with a calendar year, an investor, or a lender. Fynease keeps the books on the fiscal year and can report on either.
Setting it up
In Client Settings, Company, the fiscal year end month is the books. Under Reporting Basis you set the reporting fiscal year start, the reporting currency and the reporting standard. A summary shows the fiscal year beside the reporting year.
In Analysis
- When the two years differ, a Basis toggle, Fiscal Year or Reporting Year, appears on the Briefing and the statements.
- It moves the year-to-date and full-year windows to start from the chosen month. Month, quarter-to-date (calendar quarters) and trailing twelve months are the same either way.
- On the reporting year, the balance sheet shows equity as the opening retained earnings plus the profit for the reporting year to date, so it agrees with the income statement beside it.
In report packages
- A package is built on the books basis (each company's own currency, fiscal year and accounting standard) or the reporting basis (the Client Settings values), and the three are set together.
- A separate year setting chooses the reporting or the fiscal year for the package's windows, and the package says which basis it used. If the currency and the year are set separately, it says so.
For a group
A consolidated view has its own reporting fiscal year start, set in Group Settings. Its year-to-date and full-year windows start there, and so do the forecast's year views for the group.
In forecasts
A forecast runs from the rest of the current fiscal year for three or five more fiscal years. Its year views can be regrouped by fiscal year or reporting year.
What Fynease does not do
- Realign members with different fiscal years in a consolidation: a group reports the months every member has.
- Fiscal quarters in the quarter-to-date view, which uses calendar quarters.
- A reporting year on the receivables and payables, KPI and revenue tabs, which follow the months you view.
